Sony Ericsson “Twiggy” Walkman phone strikes a pose

We’re not exactly sure this upcoming handset from Sony Ericsson is deserving of renowned 90lb supermodel’s name — even as a codename — but slender form or not, the SE Twiggy is the star of a new round of live shots. Rumored to have been canceled (and it very well still might be), the Twiggy is a Walkman phone with a thin flip above the keypad common to various Sony Ericsson handsets over the years. In this new iteration, the face of the flip cover is home to a single touch-sensitive play/pause button. Nifty, but we would’ve liked to see forward and back buttons as well of course, as are present on the face of the W350. Beyond that, little is known about the music phone other than the fact that it has a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back.

Orange to finally launch LG GD910 watch phone next month

More interesting news from the UK today as it looks like LG’s would-be-highly-anticipated-if-not-for-the-insanely-high-rumored-price-tag GD910 watch phone is set to become a reality next month. Orange has reportedly confirmed that LG’s Dick Tracy-esque wrist gear will hit store shelves some time in August as an exclusive, though Orange exclusivity will only be for “a limited time”.
The carrier hasn’t yet pinned a price on the touchscreen GD910 watch phone and we don’t blame them considering it’s rumored to be in the £1,000 range (about $1,612 at today’s exchange rate) on a pay-as-you-go plan or SIM-only. And you thought the Nokia N97 was expensive. For the sake of our British friends’ wallets, let’s hope the rumored price is way high and this little HSDPA-ready wristwatch drops with a slightly less ridiculous price tag. As for availability on this side of the Atlantic — don’t hold your breath.

How To Use AVG Anti Virus Scanner with MSN Windows Live Messenger, WinZIP, WinRAR, Download Express, Miranda IM

A lot of programs has built-in mechanism to use antivirus solution to scan files for viruses and malware, especially applications that deal with files and receive or download files over Internet. As such, user who uses AVG security solution such as AVG Internet Security, AVG Anti-Virus or AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (this article focuses on AVG 8 and AVG 8.5), it’s possible to use the AVG virus scanner as the virus scanner for WinRAR or WinZIP to scan the archives for virus when opening, extracting, expanding or testing the ZIP or RAR and other supported format archives. The AVG anti-virus scanner can also be used to scan downloaded files at Windows Live (MSN) Messenger, Miranda IM, Download Express and other third-party programs.

Note: Depending on the versions or editions of the AVG solution you’re using, the path to the AVG executable may be different. There is also difference in executable name based on system architecture, i.e. x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit).

For 32-bit x86 System Architecture

Use the AVGSCANX.EXE program with /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean parameters. For example:

AVGSCANX.EXE /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean
“C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\AVGSCANX.EXE” /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean

For 64-bit x64 System Architecture

Use the AVGSCANA.EXE program with /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean parameters. For example:

AVGSCANA.EXE /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean
“C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG8\AVGSCANA.EXE” /scan=%file% /exe=* /arc /clean

The parameters may be different for different programs though, and can be customized to add more options, such as /HEUR for heuristic scan and /PUP for reporting potentially unwanted programs. Type “avgscanx.exe /?” or “avgscana.exe /?” to see a list of switches accepted.

The AVGSCANX.EXE program in the AVG program folder on hard drive – typically C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8, or C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\, or C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\, or C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG Free8\

Below is a few examples of the AVG scanner configuration in some popular applications.

Using AVG Virus Scanner with WinZIP

In Download Express, go to Options -> General, and set the parameters as

C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgscan?.exe /scan=%1 ext=* /arc /clean (replace ‘?’ with ‘x’ or ‘a’)

Using AVG Anti Virus Scanner with Windows Live MSN Messenger

In AVG 8 or AVG 8.5, the above parameters do not actually scan the files anymore in Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger. The scan of transferred or downloaded files appear to taken place, but 0 files was scanned when result is displayed or checked in log file. If you’re using older AVG 7.5, just go to Tools -> Options -> File Transfer, check the Scan files for viruses using option, and enter the following parameter:

"C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgscan?.exe" /SCAN=%1 /HEUR /ARC /PUP /CLEAN

Sony Ericsson’s first Android handset “Rachael” and the transparent display-rocking “Kiki” get pictured

It’s July 4th — America is celebrating its independence at the grill, policemen across the country are turning a blind eye to fireworks, liquor store owners are swimming in the day’s take… And two new Sony Ericsson handsets are getting detailed. Maybe. Consider these unconfirmed rumors for the time being, but it looks like SE’s first Android handset could be a gem and its first transparent display-equipped handset could be the ugliest thing we’ve ever seen. Let’s start at the top… After the jump.

Pictured above is a sleek full touchscreen handset codenamed “Rachael”, reported to be the Sony Ericsson’s first Android offering. According to rumor, it will bear the Xperia brand and will feature a big ‘ole touchscreen resting atop Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor, an 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus, a 3.5mm audio jack, 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 3D graphics capabilities. Hot. It will be announced later this year and, if all this holds up, could very well be the first truly drool-worthy SE handset we’ve seen in quite a while.

Next up from the mill, a hideous handset reportedly codenamed “Kiki”. Beyond the unique design, the Kiki is said to feature a glass display that can be viewed from either side of the device. The handset doesn’t seem to feature anything resembling a traditional keypad so we’re not sure how interfacing is going to work. Bottom line — this is likely a very early mock up that will be changed drastically if and when it ever reaches market.

Apple orders up a ton of cameras, rumored to hit the iPod

Considering how much Apple loves to tout the iPhone 3GS’ video capabilities in TV ads, this rumor makes plenty of sense. One of TC’s sources in Asia claims Apple has ordered a tremendous number of cameras — the kind that go into the iPhone — and that an order of this quantity can only mean one thing: iPods. If the cameras are really intended for iPods and the iPod touch gets video recording capabilities, low-end digital camera manufacturers and specialty companies like Flip might have a bumpy road ahead. Sure the photo/video quality in an “iPod touchS” wouldn’t be anywhere near comparable to a dedicated device but what does that matter? Novelty beats out quality all the time in this day and age.

While we know it will be hitting T-Mobile at some point here in the US, it looks like our friends across the pond will be first to enjoy this sweet smartphone with an O2 release coming some time this month. Big bright touchscreen, 8GB of internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with flash, 3.5mm audio jack and Android 1.5 all wrapped in a 12mm-thin case… Fair enough. So what say you — disappointed that our Euro pals get first crack at another sweet phone or did you start day dreaming as soon as we mentioned the Hero?

Ultrasn0w Unlocks iPhone 3GS Video Demo

iPhone Dev Team have published a video demonstration on using the Ultrasn0w unlocking solution tool to unlock iPhone 3GS (3G S). iPhone Dev Team claims Ultrasn0w uses the at+xlog crash as an injection vector of our unlocking payload, and it does so on the iPhone 3GS in exactly the same way as on the iPhone 3G. Together with 24Kpwn exploit found in iPhone 3GS bootrom, ultrasn0w will be able to be used on the iPhone 3GS for unlockers, without any modifications whatsoever.

A brief demonstration of the iPhone Dev Team’s unlock for the new iPhone 3G S.

Before using ultrasnow to unlock iPhone 3GS, it’s recommended to backup the personalize 3.0 firmware bundle.

A warning though is that ultrasn0w injection vector will be lost if user update to upcoming iPhone OS software 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which also updates the baseband. Until a tool is released that allows user to update the firmware without updating the baseband, any upgrade to firmware OS 3.1 will break the unlock.

Erase and Shred Confidential Files Permanently with Freeraser

Technically, when files are deleted from the computer, they will be moved to the recycle bin temporarily unless users choose the option “to remove files immediately when deleted” or use the “Shift-Del” keys. Then the files will disappear from the recycle bin. If you think your sensitive files are erased permanently once you have emptied the recycle bin, then you are wrong. When the recycle bin is cleared, it doesn’t mean the contents are permanently removed. The system will temporary move the files, place them in a hidden folder, and rename the files. The files’ content will be stored in a hidden index file, INFO2. The files of course cannot be recovered via Windows OS but the contents will still remain on the drive. They can only be totally cleared until the section of the drive they occupy are overwritten by other files. If you have highly confidential and personal files which need to be deleted, it would be good to make use of some secure deletion programs such as Freeraser so that the files will be totally erased.

Unlike other secure deletion tools, Freeraser is a free deletion application which allows users to opt for standard or portable/standalone installation. Users who occasionally bring along their pen drive to keep and transfer confidential files can choose to install the free program in their pen drive and take advantage of this application to remove the files permanently. This “Shredder” application will perform multiple data overwriting on your files before deleting from the system so that your sensitive and confidential information will be totally shredded and disappear completely.

Users can download Freeraser via the link here. During the installation process, users will be prompted to select the installation mode: Standard or Portable.

Once the installation process is completed, users will be able to see a temporary trash bin is placed on the desktop.

Users can resize and adjust the transparency accordingly by right clicking the mouse to open the shortcut menu.

To delete a file, users just need to drag the file to the trash bin. Users will be prompted with a warning notice that their files will be permanently deleted and their confirmation on whether they want to continue.

Once users’ files are placed inside the trash bin, the files will be permanently removed. Freeraser offers three destruction modes for users to choose from:

* a fast destruction (standard 1-round filling of random data)
* a forced destruction (3 rounds of filling according to DoD 5220.22M standard)
* an ultimate destruction (35 rounds of filling with data according to Guttman algorithm).

Depending on how sensitive and confidential the data is, users are free to decide which destruction type they want to use.

Apple 3G iPhone Ranked Number One Best Selling Smartphones in Japan Market

Apple’s iPhone has been getting much traction as one of the most demanding smartphones in the world. Similarly to Japanese customers, its 3G version which was brought in by Softbank in the mid of last year is believed to be the number one best-selling smartphone models in Japan market.
Apple 3G 8GB version is ranked number one based on recent survey conducted by BCN, a market survey company to around 2300 stores located nationwide in Japan. Surprisingly, its 16GB version was ranked number two followed closely by NTT DoCoMo Aquos SH-04A, designed by Sharp, a Japanese local branded smartphone. Although Apple’s iPhones lack of 1SEG Mobile TV capabilities, but it has managed to attract its consumers with its powerful software, great hardware video capabilities and more importantly, a strong application software development team’s support from all over the world. Others that are in the lists include the BlackBerry Bold by RIM as well as few models from HTC that filled up the top-ten list.

Obviously, besides Apple’s famous brand name, Softbank is also playing an important role in pushing the 3G iPhones to the market. With its heavily subsidized hardware retailed price and affordable data plans, it is estimated that more than a million units have been sold in Japan market since its first launch back to July last year. Hopefully the latest 3G S model will continue its momentum to push more new units into this saturated mobile industry.

Data is our valuable asset but you can loss them easily if there are any disaster strikes. For instance, hard drive crash or virus attack could result in the loss of data. Therefore, making a backup copy of your important data is very important so that you can restore them easily if needed. If you are looking for a simple backup tool for personal usage, CopyChangedFiles probably is a good solution for you.

CopyChangedFiles is a free utility that allows you to only backup files that have been modified from one directory to another. CopyChangedFiles not only backup files from the source directory, instead files in sub directories will be backup as well and the directory structure will be maintained.
