The Octopus USB Hub

I honestly can’t believe that this gadget wasn’t released sooner. After all, it’s a pretty logical combination, taking the tentacles of an octopus and turning them into little USB ports. This would be the way to jam 15 different ports into one device and keep it looking fun. As opposed to the other massive USB ports that just look plain boring.

This hub doesn’t have a lot of hubs, only a total of 4. It’s probably enough for the average person though. It still would look really cool packed full of different hubs though, but 4 works just as well. The Octopus Hub comes in three different colors, you can purchase it in white, purple and black. If you were hoping to pick up the purple octopus, you’ll have to hold off for a little bit. As of now, that particular color is temporarily out of stock. You can pick yours up for $10 on Gadget4all.

ARCHOS 9 PC Tablet

I’m not certain if the UMPC (Ultra-mobile Personal Computer) market has been overshadowed by the netbook industry, but ARCHOS is making a bold move into the miniPC market with the ARCHOS 9 PCtablet.

The ARCHOS 9, presumably named for its 9 inch screen, and it is quite a piece of work. It is also very thin at just 0.63 inches, and weighs in at 22.29 ounces.

It has internal power of the Z515 Intel processor, plus Microsoft Windows 7 Operating system. It also features Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11b/g connectivity for all email and web-surfing needs.

The user is able to navigate with the full touchscreen, as well as optical trackball with buttons. Typing is performed with a built-in virtual keyboard, and the ARCHOS 9 includes Microsoft Office, as well as Web TV and Radio, video conferencing, plus antivirus protection, parental control, and more.

I mentioned earlier about how the UMPC market has been nearly overshadowed by the netbook market, but I think we all envisioned PCs of the future as being handheld with a full touchscreen. It would appear that ARCHOS is on the cusp of the portable PC market. The ARCHOS 9 PC tablet will be available in the Fall, but there is no word on the price.

TimerNuke Crack Free Download to Disable Activation of Windows 7 and Server 2008

Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) is now available for free download. However, Microsoft has not yet officially launch the beta program or customer preview program for general public yet, so there is no activation product key available yet. For Windows 7 enthusiasts who intends to use Windows 7 beyond the 30-day evaluation period aka activation grace period, other than rearm method and frankenbuild+OEM BIOS emulation method, the best bet is to use Windows 7 activation crack which disable WPA.

pembros, a hacker who developed the popular TimerLock activation crack for Windows Vista, has compiled an executable, TimerNuke, that run a batch command script to disable the activation process in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. TimerNuke, also known as Windows 7 & 2008 Activation Disabler, actually does not stop the activation grace period countdown clock. Instead, it disables and removes several several services and files related to software licensing in order to bypass and skip the activation requirement.

What TimerNuke does is that when executed, it stops and changes the startup type of sppsvc (Software Protection), sppuinotify (SPP Notification Service) and SLUINotify (SL UI Notification Service) services to disable. Then, the TimerNuke simply takes ownership and full control permissions on the following files, before backing them up and finally deleting them away.

%SYSPATH%\SLLUA.exe
%SYSPATH%\sppsvc.exe
%SYSPATH%\SLUI.exe
%SYSPATH%\sppuinotify.dll
%SYSPATH%\SLUINotify.dll

Download TimerNukeSetup.zip (mirror) TimerNukeSetup.zip or download from MDL Forum.

Current Version: 1.0.5.0 Final 1.0.5.0 BETA

Once the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 is been nuked and cracked with TimerNuke, Windows will stop asking user to activate. The activation status and product ID becomes not available or unknown. Hence, the Windows may run forever without activation permanently.

Activation Status after Crack by TimerNuke

As an added bonus, the crack may also remove expiry date timebomb of beta and RC releases of Windows 7, although the TimerNuke crack does not specifically target to remove the time bomb. Who would want to use beta build when RTM build is released anyway?

TimerNuke version 1.0.5.0 supports both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. It supports at least up to Windows 7 Beta build 7000. However, it likely supports to crack the final RTM release of Windows 7 if the product activation module in the OS is not significantly changed.

To uninstall TimerNuke and reset, restore or return your computer activation state to original default, use the TimerNuke uninstall script.

How to Rearm and Extend Free Usage (Activation Grace Period) of Windows 7 to 120 Days

Windows 7 (SeVeN) is probably going to continue the trial software trend that starts with Windows Vista’s rearm, that user can install Windows 7 without any product key for free usage of 30 days as evaluation period. During the 30-day activation free grace period, user does not need to activate Windows 7, and can use Windows 7 of any edition in full functionality.

Although Windows 7 product activation function will keep reminding user how many days left to input a product key and activate the system in order to continue using the operating system beyond 30 days. In reality, Windows 7 also equip with a secret ‘rearm’ key in order to reset the free 30-day evaluation period limitation, which allows user to extend the activation-free usage or evaluation expiry date of Windows 7 for another 30 days legally.

Best of all, Microsoft provides 3 times of available ‘rearm’ count, as part of tool for system administrator to reset and restore activation state of Windows 7 to factory state during initial OOB (out of box) grace period. So, by using the ‘rearm’ hack, user can reset and extend the activation grace period (aka evaluation trial period) for up to 3 times, effectively running Windows 7 without product key without activation for up to 120 days, or 4 months. The trick is, the rearm hack must be done only when the 30 days trial period or activation grace period is about to expire.

‘Rearm’ trick on Windows 7 is done using the similar commands and steps with Windows Vista. Follow these steps to reset and extend activation grace period from 30 days to 120 days in Windows 7:

1. Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
2. After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
3. When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
4. Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter:

sysprep /generalize

slmgr.vbs –rearm

rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows

slmgr /rearm
5. Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.
6. When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.

As rearm only works for 3 times, make sure the command is only been run when the 30 days countdown of evaluation period is almost expired.

How to Disable Linux and Unix Cron Jobs (Crontab) Email Sending

Cron jobs in Unix, Linux, Solar, BSD or other Unix-like operating system is similar to scheduled tasks in Windows OS. Cron utility allows tasks (aka cron jobs) to be automatically run in the background at regular intervals or preset and predetermined time by the cron daemon. All cron jobs or tasks are defined in crontab (cron table) file, which contains the schedule and specified times of the cron entries to be run.

When an cron job runs, cron daemon will send an email to the user account that executing the cronjob. The notification or result mail messages normally contains output result or respond of the task or command executed by the cron job.

Administrator or cron jobs schedulers who do not want to receive any email every time cron jobs are run can easily turn off and disable the email sending by crontab. To disable email delivery on execution of cron jobs, just append the following command to the end of the cron job line in crontab. Each cron job that does not need email sending will have to be added.
> /dev/null 2>&1
For example,

30 8 * * * command > /dev/null 2>&1

Tip: To edit cron jobs, type “crontab -e” in most system.

Restart cron jobs deamon when done.

Start, Stop and Restart Crond Daemon in Linux

Cron jobs in Linux and its variants such as FreeBSD or CentOS which commonly used on web hosts due to popularity of cPanel web server control panel system, is important time based scheduled tasks and commands that perform various functions such as log rotation, updates checking, system maintenance, file system cleaning, backup, service restart and etc.

Cron jobs are managed by a daemon named crond. When cron schedules are added, deleted or modified by crontab, any changes are enacted by the crond daemon. Crond daemon runs constantly in the background and checks once a minute to see if any of the scheduled jobs need to be executed. If any, crond will execute the commands. If crond process is not running, no cron jobs will be executed.

Thus, it’s important to ensure that crond daemon is running and not hanged in the system. To manage crond daemon in Linux, we can make use of “service” command.

To check the status of crond daemon:

service crond status

To stop and terminate crond process:

service crond stop

To start and run crond daemon:

service crond start

To restart crond service:

service crond restart

ASUS Eee Keyboard now slated for an August release

Matrox Unveils M9138 and M9148 PCI-E Graphics Cards with Multiple DisplayPorts for PC Market

DisplayPort has becomes one of the preferred graphics display standards over HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) due to its cheaper implementation cost. While it seems to be still too early to adopt this for PC and consumer electronics markets, Matrox has already came out with two new graphics cards targeted for those users that require to work in multi-monitor system environment. Named as M9138 and M9148, there are the latest product lines under Matrox M-series families that support three to four DisplayPort based LCD monitors independently.

The new graphics card is based on standard PCI Express X 16 lanes interface that can be plugged into any existing PC platform with PCI Express slot to extend the display capability, beyond what is required by full HD 1080p LCD panel at 1920 X 1080 resolutions. Backed up with an impressive 1GB RAM memory, they are capable of driving three to four DisplayPort monitors with each of them able to scale up to maximum of 2560 X 1600 resolutions per display port.
