Apple iPhone and iPod Touch Firmware Update 2.2.1 Direct Download Links

Apple has just released iPhone device firmware OS version 2.2.1 (5H11A), which iPhone owner can download and install via iTunes and connect the phone to computer. iPhone software update version 2.2.1 is compatible with iPod Touch, iPhone and iPhone 3G products, and will also update the modem firmware (and baseband) from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03.

‘GameBone’ iPhone gamepad cooler than it sounds, doubles as battery extender

Oh, I get it. Because it’s shaped like a bone. I was thinking of something else. Here’s the GameBone Pro, a gamepad for the iPhone and iPod touch. It connects via Bluetooth or 30-pin dock connector and features a built-in battery to provide a little extra juice to your device while gaming, plus a built-in speaker and headphone jack.

All in all, I’m intrigued. I have an iPod touch, but I’d buy this thing more for use with my T-Mobile G1 — specifically for playing NES and Genesis games. The controller will come with an “iPod touch / iPhone stand supporting vertical and horizontal positions.”

So when will it be available and how much will it cost? The product’s website says it’ll be available in mid-September 2009. As for pricing — get this — the company is “currently open to pricing suggestions from the public.” Everyone suggest $5!

As for game compatibility, games made for the iPhone and iPod touch will need to be programmed to actually use the hardware so the company, 22moo, will be making a free SDK available shortly. Now as for using this thing with other devices, I’d hope that the buttons would be programmable to keyboard keys.

The gamepad itself features a D-pad, four main buttons, and two shoulder buttons. The company is located in Australia but it does ship internationally and is looking for distributors all over the place.

Organize Doughnut Gathering Via Dunkin’ Run With Apple iPhone

Enjoying a delicious baked doughnut with a cup of hot coffee from the famous Dunkin’ can now be much easier with your iPhone and iPod touch. Doughnut and coffee lovers will never have the chance to complain their orders have not been taken via a new iPhone and iPod touch app. Tapping on the iPhone and iPod’s popularity, Dunkin’ Donuts has introduced its free iPhone application, Dunkin’ Run, for customers to organize a social “doughnut” gathering and make group orders for their favorite doughnuts and coffees.


To initiate the activity, the “Runner” (organizer) can log in to the app and thence enter the email addresses or phone numbers to invite others for a doughnut gathering. The invitees will be notified about the doughnut gathering and given the menu to place their order. Once the Runner and his invitees have finished the order, the compiled order list will be finalized and printed out. The Runner can bring along the order list for verification in Dunkin’ Donut or they can just show the order list from their iPhone.

Dunkin’ Run is a pretty interesting idea where Dunkin’ Donuts merge the idea of social gathering, food & beverage and technology together. How successful this concept will be is still too early to say but for sure there will be more similar concepts coming up, tapping on the iPhone success to expand the market in this economic downturn.
